When to walk, even when the weather is dull
May 4, 2026
There is no golden hour for everyone. After a meal, especially dinner, is often when a walk helps blood sugar most.
Some people walk in the morning, some after work. CDC does not pick one hour. What matters is that you actually step outside.
A study in people with type 2 diabetes found advice to walk about 10 minutes after each main meal lowered post-meal glucose more than one 30-minute walk at no set time. Dinner showed the largest gap.
You do not need that diagnosis to try a short loop after a meal. The body is handling the food. Walking helps muscle use that sugar.
Bad weather is an easy excuse. A shorter loop closer to home, or a few flights of stairs, still breaks a sitting block.
Pick the time you will actually go. The habit lives in walks that are just enough, even on a gray day.
